The consequences of viral infections and fear

With the recent outbreak of Covid-19, all may not seem well, especially in more affected countries.

But while many are in panic over the viral infection, it also seems as if common sense has flown out of the equation.

People start doing questionable acts such as buying out entire stores, all in the name of fear of infection.

Once bustling streets grow empty and in some countries, the public’s collective brains seem to have been tossed out of the window as people go as far as to verbally or even physically attack mask wearers or people of Asian descent.

An anti-Asian xenophobic issue has emerged, all stemming from FEAR. Fear has been wreaking havoc in the minds of people all over the world. A single cough from a dry throat could cause mass hysteria. Wearing a mask in public could cause ill-intent to be aimed at you.

Instead of fact-checking and keeping up the proper measures to prevent even more of an outbreak from occurring, people have taken to pointing blame and attacking their fellow citizens for being a certain race.

While this fear-caused situation is less dire in certain countries thus far, but leaving it unchecked could lead to things getting ugly.

So, in this fearful economy, what can we do to prevent an escalation of panic?

Here’s what you can do to keep your head above water while the Covid-19 situation is ongoing:

  • Stay updated with infection prevention measures.
  • Don’t believe everything you read online.
  • Keep in mind that wearing a mask is a precaution, not an indication of infection.
  • Keep a level head and don’t panic.
